GREAT WOMEN COMPOSERS 2024: Lili and Nadia Boulanger - Join us for some wonderful music!

This is one of a series of annual Great Women Composers concerts that Claire Detels has presented in Taos since 2015 during Women’s History Month in March.  Claire started doing these concerts in the 1990s at the University of Arkansas as an effort to introduce classical music audiences to music by women composers that have been excluded from the repertoire until recently; exclusion that still operates given traditions of music performance depending on longstanding curriculum, textbooks, audience-favored repertoire, etc.   Last year the Taos Great Women Composers concert was on “Clara Schumann and Her Circle,”  featuring piano and chamber music  by Clara and close associates.  This year we are celebrating the Boulanger sisters, active in early 20th c. Paris, one of whom (Lily) was the first woman to win the Prix de Rome, and the other of whom taught many of the greatest 20th c. American musicians, from Aaron Copland to Quincy Jones.
